Don't smother it; cover it

Okay so, unusual title for a post but everything will come to light shortly.

Spending my usual Sundays watching Lisa Eldridge teach me all there is to know about a flawless base and her signature 'no make up make up' there was a little gem that I wanted to mention more about. A tutorial by Lisa featured how to cover problem skin, mild acne, something that us mere mortals and celebs alike sometimes struggle with. We've all been there when we are desperately trying to layer up concealer to hide a blemish when the cake-like coverage draws attention to areas that any close encounter on public transport would look past. So Lisa in her wise words, mentions that we only need use foundation and coverage on specific areas -leave as much of the clear skin as possible make up free. Especially around the eyes as others are drawn to the eyes and won't notice make up application on the rest of the skin. Apply a light foundation to even out skin tone to areas that are needed and then work with a fuller coverage back into specific places with a very fine brush.

The result a flawless complexion that doesn't look 'smothered caked-on makeup' bit covers imperfections and draws others to the natural eyes. Watch Lisa's tutorial here and let me know what you think- I for one have stopped a blanket foundation layer and am embracing as much natural skin as I can!

OPI Natural Nails

Spring has arrived and there is a little glimpse of the Summer sun around too, a natural nail is a key trend for the season. Keep nails with a natural shape and tidy cuticles, there's a handy post on cuticle care just here, and start with the natural nail base coat, then add a neutral colour if you want to and finish with lashings of the top coat for chip-free natural nails. If you pick up a little colour in Summer, there's nothing that highlights a tan better than the shine of a natural nail.

Insider Interview: Mileti Swimwear

In this week's Insider Interview, we chat to Mileti Swimwear's founder Letizia Cramer Afentakis on founding a cult swimwear brand and Beyonce wearing the brand!

What’s your usual working day like?
I am an early-riser and like to start my day when most people are still asleep. I usually try to get all my online work done before lunch time, and then schedule my meetings in the afternoon. I also try to have a long walk in the park at some point during the day. Walking is therapeutic for me and allows me to think and relax. Between January and May I spend most of my days on the phone or on email with our manufacturing team as this is when we are preparing and finalizing our collections. It is intense and hard work, but it is also the most creative time of the year. I love it!

What was your dream job when you were younger?
My mum used to draw me the most amazing princess dresses when i was a child. I was enchanted. They were all so beautiful with their lace, details and embroideries. And while those pictures only ever lived on paper, she definitely passed me the love of drawing and the appreciation of beauty in general. From there i always knew i was going to be involved in something creative.

What's the best piece of career advice you've been given?
Someone once told me "You can do the impossible, it is miracles that take a little longer".

What's your number one style tip?
Don't try too hard! It shows immediately! Nothing is more attractive than effortless beauty.

If you weren't doing the career you are now, what do you think you would be doing?
I would be focusing more on my other passion, art.

If someone was looking for a career change into your industry, how would you propose the best way is to start?
Get a job in a big fashion company and learn all aspects of the business. Fashion is so much more than what people think. When you start your won brand you must be able to be a designer, and PR ,an agent, and good salesman, an accountant, and much more. So getting experience in big companies where you are exposed to all of that really helps. But never forget that you will never know everything, at some point you just have to trust yourself, take the risk and go for it.

What's the best thing about your job?
Mileti Swimwear is mine and this is why it makes every day exciting. Having flexibility is very important to me and being my own boss allows me to organize my time how i want.

What's the toughest part of your job?
I get to make all the decisions, so i also get to make all the mistakes!

Most proud career moment to date?
When Beyonce chose a swimwear, wore it and posted all the amazing pictures on her blog!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
Let's take it one season at a time with one year at a time!
