K is for... An A to Z of fashion & beauty careers

Continuing the new weekly blog feature, an A to Z of careers in the fashion, beauty and entertainment industries.

K IS FOR... Knitwear designer
If you are a creative and pay careful attention to detail then a career as a jeweller or jewellery design might just be for you. You can train a places like The London College of Fashion who offer specialist jewellery degrees, or you could study a more broad art degree and specialise in smaller 3D work. It sounds a little like a broken record, but in this role, like journalist, if you can get experience working with a jewellery designer or jewellery this will really kick start your career. This will give you first hand experience of working in a studio or store and is a great way to get your foot in the door if you are looking to work for a large, established jewellery, even if you are looking to work for yourself, experience with a professional will be invaluable in the future.

K IS FOR... KEY GRIP
In all areas of entertainment and motion picture, a key grip is in charge of all camera operations, booking all camera and recording crew. If you are interested in video production and are technically minded and organised this might be the career for you. A degree or higher education study in media or production would be useful, but above all experience in the industry is a must. Getting work experience at a TV station, video production agency or film studios is the best way to learn your craft and understand the use of equipment too. Getting experience in different industries such as TV, film, documentary, news and the arts might be great to help you decide what area of production you would like to work in.

All A to Z entries will be compiled in a little ibooks download in a little while, including further career suggestions, tips & insider information & a contacts list. Watch this space for the download link...
